Modern architecture and design is not just about minimalism and bling. Contemporary homes go a lot beyond stylish interiors and sleek lines and this ambient house in San Mateo County California is an example of how one can expand the interiors a lot beyond the four walls and ensure that the serene surroundings seem like a natural extension.

Designed by design studio Johnson Chou this beautiful house seems to offer two entirely different worlds packed into one. The ground floor sports the kitchen living dining study and guest quarters which are all clad in some old-world charm with the use of ebony wood veneer panels.

Elevated using steel poles and sporting an ‘all wood’ floor the HP Tree House ensures that you wake up the lovely sights and sounds of life on rainforest canopy… Something that is both rare and hard to replicate elsewhere.

This latest revamped home comes in from South Africa and conjured up and completed by Nico van der Meulen Architects it is both modern and inviting in its outlook. The revamp project has been dubbed as ‘House The’ (Yup does not seem a very creative name but we can live with it) and the extensive remodeling was done on the ground floor as many of the internal walls were done away with to create one large and unobstructed flowing space.

The small house movement also known as the tiny house movement celebrates minimalist living and the beauty of well-built compact spaces. Eco-friendly materials are often used and the small scale of these residences encourages clutter-free interiors. A large number of compact homes built in recent years have been modern in style as the simplicity of these small structures blends seamlessly with contemporary design.

To ensure that it does not cause a detrimental effect on the panoramic natural surroundings the home uses various eco-friendly measures like a solar panel rooftop that allows it to go off grid and low energy lighting installations that save up on power.

The main rectangular structure is enhanced by sleeping and service spaces that sport the same form factor and add a sense of symmetry to the beach house. Warm and tranquil lighting along with the use of refreshing colors and shades make this a balanced boxed delight.
